To create our colorful lanterns, we first experimented with mixing colored water; blue, red, yellow. We create secondary colors; green, orange, purple. Next, we used water droplets and added them to coffee filter papers. After they dried, we made a special mixture of cornstarch, glue, water, and flour. We blew up balloons and pasted the special paper onto the balloons.
We made some predictions about what might happen to once everything dried:
"The balloon will blow up"
"It will shrink and turn float in the air"
"Maybe the paper will change color. It maybe will change to be the same like the red balloon"
As we observed, we noticed the balloon slowly lost its air and shrunk inside the paper ball. We took out the balloon and had to reshape the lanterns. Viola! They now hang beautifully above our group tables to admire.
Room 9 & 11 will be sharing their learning every Friday.
