This week, students learned about diversity to help them develop empathy for others. We read Todd Parr's picture book It's Okay to Be Different to help students understand what diversity means and how it applies to them. After a shared reading of the text, students discussed and wrote about diversity. Students created their own colourful portraits to help them become more knowledgeable about diversity and become empathetic human beings. Students wrote:
“You are who you are. You are good. Inside you are good, too.”
“It is ok to be different because we are the same inside, but we look different outside. We are nice to everybody. We are all friends.”
“No matter what you do, even if you are different, your friends are still your friends.”
“Everybody is the same from inside.”
Room 9 & 11 will be sharing their learning every Friday.
